Ένα σπάνιο διαμάντι σε δημοπρασία
Η κομψή vintage Bugatti 57SC Atlantic του 1936 έγινε το ακριβότερο αυτοκίνητο στην ιστορία. Η τιμή του σε δημοπρασία στην Καλιφόρνια των ΗΠΑ έφτασε τα 30 εκατομμύρια δολάρια. Η 57SC Atlantic είναι ένα από τα τρία αυτοκίνητα που κατασκεύασε η Bugatti και βρέθηκε σε δημοπρασία έπειτα από το θάνατο του ιδιοκτήτη της, τον Peter Williamson, ο οποίος ήτανε νευρολόγος και γνωστός φανατικός συλλέκτης αυτοκινήτων.
Ο οίκος Gooding & Co που έκανε την δημοπρασία ανακοίνωσε ότι η τίμη έσπασε κάθε ρεκόρ χωρίς να προσδιορίσει το ακριβές ποσό επίσημα. Όμως πολλοί παρευρισκόμενοι έκαναν λόγο ότι η Bugatti πωλήθηκε για 30 εκατομμύρια δολάρια.
Ο David Gooding, ο ιδιωκτήτης του οίκου περιέγραψε το αυτοκίνητο σαν ένα από τα πιο πολύτιμα αυτοκίνητα που υπήρχαν σε ιδιωτική συλλογή και σπάνια έχουν εμφανιστεί στους δρόμους τα τελευταία 40 χρόνια.
Το προηγούμενο ρεκορ, που ανερχότανε σε 9 εκατομμύρια δολάρια, κατείχε μία Ferrari Testa Rossa 250 του 1957.
